The Venue: Downtown Community Television
The New Economy Film Festival will be held in New York City at the historic Downtown Community Television headquarters at 87 Lafayette Street, one block from Canal Street. Founded in 1972 by Jon Alpert and Keiko Tsuno, the center’s core belief is that expanding public access to the electronic media arts invigorates our nation’s democracy. DCTV is a highly regarded independent nonprofit media center that provides education, equipment and screening facilities at no or low budget. In its 50 year history, DCTV has taught over 50,000 students, largely members of low-income and minority communities who would otherwise be unable to afford a media arts education.
